Clavet’s 2020 Citizen of the Year is our outgoing Mayor Spencer Beaulieu.  Spencer spent twelve years on council, the last four as Mayor.  Spencer has been actively involved in the community since he and his family moved here 14 years ago. He has been a member of Clavet’s Emergency Measures Organization since its inception. He spent four years as the treasurer for Clavet Minor Hockey and two terms as a board member of the Clavet United Church. Spencer has also coached hockey for numerous years as well as being team treasurer. He also coached soccer and flag football for a couple years.

Spencer has always been very supportive of the various functions and fundraisers in Clavet. This includes dances, Senior’s Day, Santa Day, Fire prevention week celebrations, fall suppers and Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers. He has also helped plan and participate in Canada Day celebrations. The most memorable being where he volunteered to sit in the dunk tank and be the first to try out the fire departments slip and slide on a very cold and rainy day.  All of these things make Spencer a very worthy recipient of this year’s award.

Clavet’s 2020 Volunteer of the Year, Dan Lalonde has been on the Clavet Fire Department since April of 2018.  At that time he jumped in to his bunker pants with both feet. That spring The Fire Department had a number of large calls and Dan was instrumental in giving his all to help with those.  Since then he has continued to better himself by keeping his attendance near perfect.  He has attended multiple fire schools, taken every course offered, and completed all the Firefighter 1 online courses, along with every other course offered in the online curriculum (86 by last count). He is a key medical first responder being available during most daytime calls.

The time he gives is not only the official recorded time, but in the hours spent at the hall, helping with maintenance, keeping minutes from the meetings, flooding the community outdoor rink, and helping prepare for training nights. In 2020 he attended 28 of 50 call outs and 19 of 20 training nights. Dan is a valued member of The Clavet Fire Department.
